Swiss Ball Tricep Dips

Tricep dips work the triceps muscle on the back of the upper arm. Doing the exercise on a swiss ball rather than a bench makes it more difficult.

Teaching points

  • Squat near the floor with the ball behind you.
  • Place your hands on the ball so your fingers are pointing at your back
  • Hold your weight between your hands and feet.
  • Start with the elbows straight and slowly bend the elbows, lowering your buttocks towards the floor.
  • Do not allow the buttocks to touch the floor, or the upper arm to move past horizontal.

Muscles worked

  • Triceps Brachii.
  • Anconeus.

Alternative exercises

  • Tricep dips using body weight.
  • Overhead tricep extension using a resistance band.
  • Jawbreakers.
  • French press.

Related injuries

  • Inflammation or rupture of the triceps tendon.
