Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome Assessment & Diagnosis
Video demonstrating Tinels test for tarsal tunnel syndrome.
Assessment of Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome should involve firstly observing the ankle and foot in particular. Overpronation is a big cause of tarsal tunnel syndrome.
Palpating (feeling) the area around the medial malleolus (inner ankle bone) may be tender in people with tarsal tunnel syndrome
Tinel's sign (see video) is a test for confirming tarsal tunnel syndrome. The therapist taps (either with a hammer as shown, or their fingers) the area underneath and in front of the medial malleolus. Reproduction of the patient's symptoms such as pain and pins and needles is a positive result.
