Calluses can cause skin tenderness or soreness on the skin of the foot. Calluses are common at the ball of the foot. Bruising and inflammation with associated swelling can also cause skin tenderness.

Direct palpation, contact through material or footwear can cause skin tenderness especially if ill fitting or becomes an irritant to the skin. Diabetes can elicit in form of skin tenderness at the feet.
