HAMSTRING KINESIOLOGY TAPING

Hamstring kinesiology taping

Kinesiology taping is commonly used during hamstring strain rehabilitation to support the muscles, improve proprioception, and assist muscle activation during movement. Different taping techniques may also help reduce swelling and support recovery.

This page explains when and how to apply kinesiology tape as part of hamstring strain rehabilitation.

How to apply kinesiology tape for hamstrings

Prepare the tape

Cut three strips of kinesiology tape and round the corners to help prevent the tape from peeling away from the skin. Fold each strip approximately one-third of the way along. Remove the smaller section of backing paper to expose the adhesive.

Apply hamstring kinesiology tape

Place the hamstring muscles in a stretched position before applying the tape. It is important to apply the tape along the full length of the hamstring muscles, from the top of the thigh to below the knee.

First, anchor the tape at the top of the thigh. Then, gradually remove the backing paper while applying the tape down the length of the muscle towards the knee. Apply approximately 50% stretch through the middle section of the tape.

Once applied, rub firmly along the tape to activate the adhesive through heat and improve adhesion to the skin. Finally, repeat the process for the remaining hamstring muscles using additional strips of tape.
