Pain on the inside of the knee or inner knee pain often occurs suddenly from an acute injury. For example, twisting the knee, or direct impact from another player. Medial knee sprain (torn ligament) and medial cartilage meniscus tear are common acute knee injuries resulting in inner knee pain.
Gradual onset inside knee pain occurs from knee ligament sprains, however, it is more likely from osteoarthritis, or bursitis. Osteoarthritis is wear and tear in the joint and usually affects older athletes. Bursitis is inflammation of a small sac of fluid in the joint.
