The double-leg stand with eyes closed is a simple balance exercise that helps improve stability and proprioception. Removing visual input increases the demand on the muscles and joints around the foot and ankle, helping to improve control.
This exercise is commonly used in the early to mid stages of rehabilitation when balance and coordination need to be restored.
How to perform double-leg stand (eyes closed)
- Stand with your weight evenly distributed on both legs.
- Keep your posture upright and steady.
- Close your eyes and hold the position without swaying.
- Open your eyes and repeat as required.
Progression:
- If this becomes easy, progress to a single-leg stand, first with eyes open, then with eyes closed.
Key points
- Keep your balance steady throughout
- Avoid excessive movement or swaying
- Stay relaxed and controlled
- Use support nearby if needed
This exercise forms part of our calf strain rehabilitation program, helping to improve balance and control before progressing to more demanding activities.
