Crab Walk with Band

Crab walk with band works the hip abductor muscles in a more natural or functional way. The abductor muscles on the outside the hip in particular, tend to switch off when you become injured. Therefore, it is important to keep them work and prevent them tightening up an weakening.


The basic crab walk at walking pace is more suitable in the early stages of injury rehabilitation. Progress this exercise by performing the Dynamic crab walk which is faster and more explosive.

Teaching Points:

  • Place a resistance band around your knees and walk sideways
  • Keep good athletic posture and stance
  • This gets the hip muscles firing and fatiguing under bodyweight load
  • Perform 4 sets of 4 steps on each side with a short rest in between
