Iliolumbar Ligament Sprain |

| |
What is an iliolumbar ligament sprain?
The iliolumbar ligament runs from the transverse process (side) of the 5th lumbar vertibrae to the back of the iliac crest. Damage to this ligament may cause pain in the sacroiliac joint area and it can be virtually impossible to tell the difference between this injury and a sacroiliac joint injury.
Treatment involves
- Cold therapy to reduce pain and swelling if present.
- When pain allows, deep tissue sports massage techniques to mobilize the soft tissues in the area particularly the bottock and hip muscles.
- Stretching techniques for the muscles of the hip and buttocks.
