Tennis Elbow Braces and Supports

There are different types of elbow support.

Epicondylitis Clasp

The epicondylitis clasp is a precision support and is recommended by many sports injury professionals. It fits around the forearm and places pressure on the muscles of the forearm taking strain off the epicondylitis or area where the muscles attach. It is important to fit an epicondylitis clasp correctly for it to be effective (video).

Tennis Elbow Brace

The tennis elbow brace is a simplified version of the epicondylitis clasp. It wraps around the forearm and takes pressure off the muscle attachments. Some have additional pads which should be placed over the muscles that attach directly to the epicondylitis.

Wear it as a short term measure to aid recovery and protect against injury. If you need to use your arm during the day for work then it can give support and aid healing.

Elbow Heat Retainer / Support

A heat retainer or support provides support and protection to the elbow joint in general. In addition it helps retain the heat produced by the body. Blood circulation is improved and therefore healing is accelerated.

Use an elbow support or heat retainer to aid recovery but try not to rely on them long term as this can cause muscle wastage around the joint. If you need to wear a support to mask pain in order to play then you probably should be resting. Use it to heal and provide additional support during rehabilitation.
