Adductor Squeeze Test

The adductor squeeze test is for assessing groin injuries and muscle strength, particularly targeting the adductor muscles of the thigh.

How to perform the adductor squeeze test

First, have the patient lie on their back with their hips bent at 45 degrees. Then, position your fist or forearm between their knees.

The patient then squeezes their knees together against a fist or forearm for 5 seconds. This activates the adductor longus muscle maximally, providing a high squeeze value.

Next, test with the hips at 0 degrees flexion. This position stresses the adductors near their pelvic origin. Provide resistance at the feet to increase the movement’s leverage, requiring more force from the adductor and placing greater stress on its origin.

Finally, lengthen the adductor by moving the patient’s hip into adduction. Ask them to bring their leg back to the centre against your resistance, testing the muscle’s strength in a stretched position.

These steps help evaluate the integrity and strength of the adductors in various positions, crucial for diagnosing and planning rehabilitation for groin injuries.
